Apress Authors Engage the Community
Apress authors are making a difference "after the book" by contributing to user group journals and similar venues. User groups are typically volunteer-run organizations and looking for quality content. Helping supply that content is a three-way win for authors promoting their work, user group editors seeking content, and the members who ultimately read and benefit.
Recent examples of authors contributing user-group content are:
- Peter Carter, author of our recently published book about Pro SQL Server Administration. Look for his article on Understanding Threat Analysis in late December. It'll be in the Winter 2015 (PDF) issue of SQL>Update, the Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group journal.
- Darl Kuhn, known for his backup and recovery expertise that is so well demonstrated in RMAN Recipes for Oracle Database 12c. Find his article on New Indexing Features in Oracle Database 12c in the November (PDF) journal issue from the Northern California Oracle Users Group.
- Tom Kyte, lead author of Expert Oracle Database Architecture. Tom has recently collaborated with Darl Kuhn and Jonathan Gennick on Boost Your Career through Writing—an interview-style piece that'll run in the Quarter 4 issue of the Independent Oracle User Group's SELECT Journal.
Book authors should not miss opportunities like these to engage with their audiences. Everyone wins. Authors get exposure, readers gain new content, and don't forget the busy journal editor whose life is made easier through the gain of some top-notch content.
